"I fell in love with working with senior citizens once when I was a consultant for Valley working on the nutrition program. My background was the food business having worked for Kroger for seven years and owning my own restaurant for five years. After spending time with the seniors during my consultant time with the agency, I really could not see myself doing anything else. Seniors are so wise and fun to be around and talk with. Seniors are the backbone of our country and the country was built on their shoulders and with their sweat equity….what is not to love about working with seniors!"
Ms. Boles began her health administration career at the Valley Area Agency on Aging as a consultant for the agency’s nutritional programs. Named Senior Program Coordinator in 1991, Kathy had oversight of the agency’s Multi-Year Plan development and contract management. In 1998, she prepared the VAAA’s grant application to expand the MI Choice (Medicaid Waiver) program, eventually becoming the MI Choice Waiver Director, overseeing all aspects of this life-changing program. Kathryn was named Deputy Director of VAAA in 2001 and appointed President, CEO in FY 2004. Since then, she has moved the agency forward by working tirelessly to raise community awareness of VAAA and implementing several unique programs to serve older adults and their families in Planning and Service Area (PSA) 5.
On a personal note, Ms. Boles enjoys spending time with her husband of 41 years, Jim, as well as their five children and six grandchildren. Kathryn also enjoys travel, read, gardening, entertaining, and now learning to play golf!
